After the disappointing loss last Saturday Stamford return to Borderville, as they face Bedworth United, hoping that they won’t be victims of a cruel turn-around after throwing away a two goal lead. Delroy Gordon and Courtney Meade scored the goals before a quick-fire triple from Market Drayton before the break, and a screamer in the second half left Stamford with a feeling of disappointment as they travelled back to Lincolnshire from Shropshire.
The last time the two sides met, on the 27th of September, it ended 3-2 to the Daniels. Two late goals from Ollie Brown-Hill and Ryan Robbins won it for Stamford. This was needed after Bedworth scored two goals in a minute giving them a 2-1 lead cancelling out Lee Beeson’s first half goal.
The opposition for Saturday’s game come into the clash in mixed form having won two, lost two and drawn one in their last five. Their most recent game was a 4-0 victory over Sheffield where Jack Jeys scored a hat-trick in the first half. He isn’t their only player coming in to the game in hot form: Daniel Creaney is the fifth highest scorer in the league with 12 goals already, all of these coming from open play.
Their other results in the last five include a 3-3 draw against Basford, a 2-1 loss to Rushden and Diamonds, a 5-1 victory against Loughborough and a 3-1 loss to Rugby. This run has seen them score 14 goals and concede nine. This high scoring hasn’t just been in the last five, in fact Bedworth have the second most goals scored in the league behind leaders Shaw Lane. On the other hand at the back they have the fifth worst defensive record in the division conceding 46 so far in the 25 games they have played.
This leaves them six places above the Daniels in 10th place with 35 points which is six more than Stamford have collected this season, leading to the visitors sitting outside the playoffs by just seven points. At the back they have a former Daniel in the form of Left Back Nathan Haines who joined Stamford from Bedworth back in 2013 for manager David Staff as he built his side for the first season in the Northern Premier league. He joined from Bedworth following their relegation from the premier. He has now returned to Bedworth after playing for teams such as Nuneaton Griff.
