Saturday the 28th of January sees the return fixture against Belper who haven’t played a league game since the two sides met on the 7th where Stamford ran out two-nil winners, with goals coming from Jake Duffy and Delroy Gordon.
Stamford have been in some of their best form of the season having won three and lost two of their last five games which has seen them start to climb the league. Belper’s last five games have been three draws coming against Gresley, Sheffield and Northwich, a victory against Romulus which finished 4-2 and the loss against the Daniels.
Belper have had a strong defence so far this season conceding just 27 goals in 24 games which is the fourth best in the division. On the other hand at times they have lacked firepower upfront having only scored 30 goals so far this season which is the joint fourth worst in the league. This gives them a goal difference of +3 making them the lowest place team with a positive goal difference. Stamford come into the game having the opposite situation with a -7 goal difference having conceded 46 and scored 39 in 25 games so far.
Belper find themselves in 14 place in the league on 33 points while Stamford have 32 and lay just one place behind them and a win could see the Daniels move up to 11th. But realistically 13th is the highest they can rise to due to a large gap in goal difference between Stamford and the higher mid-table teams.
Wayne Hallcro, whose first game with the club was the Belper away game will be in the dugout against his former club. He joined Belper as assistant to Jimmy Albans from Grantham in February 2015. Jamie McGhee also has history with Belper after joining them with Albans and Hallcro from Grantham. Hallcro and Albans were then sacked in September of 2015.
