Stanley Rodillians played their first 2nd team/social game of the season against local rivals Leeds Corinthians 2nd xv. The Rods xv was made up of veterans, new members and fringe 1st teamers. Leeds had arrived with 14 men and big thanks goes to Rods 1st team fullback Adam Scrafton who stepped into the breach to play for the opposition.
The game started brightly with both sides playing good rugby and both teams scoring early in the game.
The lead changed hands on a few occasions in the first half and with the Rods losing centre Heath Dakin after a collision with one of his own team mates reducing Rods to 14 men. The half ended with the Rods just in front due to the kicking of Tom Tooley .
Early second half pressures was always going to be on Rods, A man down ,playing into the wind and up the hill a tough task was set.
Rods lost a man due to persistent penalties as the pressure built and Leeds Corinthians took full advantage with a try putting them back into the Lead.
Back upto 14 after the yellow card Rods replied to retake the lead,but Corinthians were not to be outdone in this entertaining match and replied with another try to re take the lead.
Rods suffered yet another yellow card with just ten minutes to go, but instead of this spelling the end, it galvanised the team and Rods finished with 2 more tries and a victory 33 - 24.
Rugby was the winner on the day with 30 players enjoying a game of rugby played in good spirit and that provided great entertainment for the watching crowd.
There were excellent performances from new comers Nick King, Richard Robinson and Kris Ashton. 1st team squad players Chris Walker, Ben Schofield and Will Marable
all showed their potential.
