Manley Park welcomed Garforth in the Yorkshire vase competition.
On a cold but Sunny afternoon,Rods found themselves under early pressure from the visitors. Following a well worked rolling maul by the Garforth pack, a try was scored and a successful conversion added. Garforth had the early 0-7 lead.
The early set back sparked Rods in to life and after great work at the lineout, Captain Adam Shires crossed the whitewash for a try that went unconverted.Rods 5- 7 Garforth.
Garforth again built pressure and whilst unable to score tries, due to the valiant and resolute Rods defence, they were able to take advantage with 2 penalty conversions and the lead moved to 5-13 .
The ebb and flow of the first half continued as Rods started to get back on top and the pack becoming more dominant .This hard work led to the next try by Nathan Booth , Adam Scrafton then added the extras the second half was set up nicely at
Rods 12 - 13 Garforth.
The second half kicked of and Rods were soon in the ascendancy. Garforth were under increasing pressure and struggled to get out of their own half.
The pressure was to tell and Rods soon found themselves with a healthy lead .Tries from Liam Crawley and then by Ben Schofield were just reward for the dominance being shown ,and though both went unconverted Rods were ahead 22-13.
Rods remained strong and whilst no more tries were to be added, the continued pressure resulted in penalties being awarded . The two penalties within kicking range were converted by Adam Scrafton .
The game drew to a close and the second half dominance by Rods had resulted in a 28 - 13 victory for Rods.
Next week Rods return to Yorkshire League 4 action, with a short trip to Leeds Corinthians.The Corinthians have been going well this season and are pushing for promotion, whilst Rods will be looking for the points to secure their place in the division.
