Aaron Hall with 5 goals!

After the disappointing defeat the previous week against Shardlow, STFC had a point to prove against Argosy. The lads arrived motivated to get out on the pitch into a warm up. Except for Fat. He was too busy tucking his legs into his dress fleece. With Fryer still locked in his house and Brownerson feeding le baby, it was the same squad of players from the previous week for Matt to select from.

Opting for a change in personel after the defeat, Fat and Cole were given starts with Wort and Hogg starting on the bench. The game started with high tempo and a sense of determination from STFC to put Argosy under alot of pressure and force mistakes. It didn't take long for the first chance to be created either as Boston worked well with Rick down the left hand side, who then found Bradders. He turned to find Flewitt in field but his shot was collected by the keper.

The pressure continued and the first goal came on the 7th minute as Hall collected the ball from Cox out wide, he cut infield and his deflected effort fell to Ryan who smashed it home for 1-0.
The following 5-10 minutes was an onslaught of corners - Mulligan and Harris both going close. However, it was Bradders who got the 2nd goal after Ryan Flewitt put it on a plate for him from a corner. Bradders headed home his 3rd of the season.

There was some complacency creeping in around the pitch as STFC stepped off the gas and Argosy managed to capiltalise on an error at the back. Their striker latched onto a free ball and saw Matt off his line. He went for the hip dip chippidy chip and it went in! Matt was so lost in his anger at the goal that he forgot to sub himself and go home - as per the chip cob rules.

STFC regained composure after the goal and took control of the game once more. Rick and Boston doing bits down the left and making their defender wish he'd stayed in bed. Whilst on the other side, Fat was seeing plenty of the ball but struggling to find a red shirt with his crosses. However, that all changed on the 30th minute after Bradders ran onto a deep cross from Boston who did well to pick out Fat waiting on the edge of the 18 yard area. He took a touch and floated a pinpoint ball to Hall who headed home for 3-1.

More chances came as Cole's effort from range was saved, Hall and Rick missing marginally and Cox's airshot all failing to increase STFC's lead.

The 4th goal came just before half time after a series of failed corners continued to frustrate STFC by being blocked or deflected. However, Argosy couldn't block them all and Rick's drilled cross from a corner was blocked by their defender but in the wrong direction and it bounced off his David Shinola and went in.

At half time, the message was clear - don't get complacent and will that striker get off Kev's chair?? Toby got vexed and told man to leave. Man did not leave. Man laughed. Fat was told to run at their defender and take him on because he was dredders. Keper Matt was questioned on why he wasn't at home and Azza wasn't interested one bit so he wandered off to watch another match.

The 2nd half started just as dominant as the 1st. STFC pushing on for more goals as the goal difference was key to make up. It wasn't long before the goals started pouring in. Ryan broke through down the right after linking with Fat, his run through the two defenders allowed a pass across to Azza who gladly tapped in.

Ryan then got his second of the game after Cole burst through down the right and found Ryan who took a touch and blasted his shot pass keper for 6-1.

The 7th was Aaron Hall again as Fat provided the assist.

The 8th goal was a sight to behold as the teams oldest and most overweight player managed to get on the scoresheet as Ryan Flewitt put him clean through on goal down the right. Fat's run was timed brilliantly and he continued his run before beating the keper. Fat then fell to the ground in shock and made out that he had cramp.

Manager Matt Harris made two changes with Banny Bogg and Tobias Wort coming on in place of Bradders and Rick. Both players were straight into the action and obviously wanted to get themselves on the scoresheet.

The next goal came after what would have been a screamer from Banny Bogg but his 20 yarder cannoned off the crossbar but the keper decided to continue facing the wrong way - it looked like he glitched. Azza just waited for the ball to drop from the air and tapped it in.

The 10th goal was scored by Ryan who completed his hat-trick and was assisted by Aaron Hall.

The final goal came after some great work from Wort to win the ball and carry the ball in field. His pass to Flewitt only needed a tap in but his scuffed shot fell to Hall who got his 5th of the game.

There were plenty of other chances throughout the game as Cox audaciouslly went for a chip cob but fluffed his lines, Wort having an effort blocked, Hall and Flewitt having a number of chances but it finished 11-1.
A solid performance all round and every player put in a good shift to get confidence levels back up.
