GIRLS RUGBY - FUN, FITNESS AND FRIENDSHIPS
St Austell RFC has a growing section of girls that love the game of rugby.
There are four age groups
Under 12 years (year 7 at secondary school)
Under 14 years (years 8 and 9 at secondary school)
Under 16 years (years 10 and 11 at secondary school)
Under 18 years (years 12 and 13 college students)
Training
Training will run every Wednesday evening during term time from 6.00pm to 7.00pm for U12 and 7.00pm to 8.00 pm for U14, U16 and U18. All training is at Tregorrick Park, St Austell, PL26 7AG unless otherwise advised.
Our coaches are volunteers and give up their own time to help develop our squad. Our coaches include Miss Helina Colledge, Jay Sloggett and Beth Grant. The older more experienced girls help to lead the sessions, develop a warm up plan and assists with the younger players.
There are times during the winter when the grass pitches are too wet to train, training may be cancelled at short notice or moved to an all weather facility such as the 4G pitch at Brannel school.
Matches
These usually take place most Sunday afternoons at various rugby clubs in Cornwall
Clothing and equipment
Players must be prepared to get muddy, hot, cold and wet!
Essential equipment includes studded boots, shorts or leggings, 2 or 3 of top layers and a fitted GUMSHIELD and a water bottle.
Rugby is a contact sport – therefore all clothing worn must NOT have zips, buttons, hoods or fasteners.
Please do not go out and buy equipment until you are sure your daughter really wants to join our team – we have a selection of second hand boots and tops that can be borrowed for the first few weeks.
Players will normally remove one top layer as they become warmer and replace that top layer again to return home.
Transport
Sunday Matches will be taking us all around Cornwall, I appreciate parents are busy and also have other commitments, so if your child is able to play but needs a lift to the match – please speak to me or other parents within our group – I am sure we can find a lift!
Communication
I prefer to communicate with all parents and players via a mobile phone app called HEJA. I will need to give you a unique code to access our St Austell Angel team. This app allows you to read and reply to the most recent messages, see the full schedule of fixtures and post your availability.
We also have a closed facebook site that you may wish to join - St Austell RFC Girls Rugby News and Events.
I recommend that every parent and player puts my contact details into their phone.

Rugby Club Membership
We ask that new players register with England RFU as soon as possible as this registration gives you some insurance cover.
New players can have 2 free training sessions before paying an annual subscription of £60. The under U12 age group has the opportunity to play alongside the boys, in this instance the membership increases to £80 as there are more matches for the girls.
