Following a display of rugby skills by the mini junior section St Austell treated their sponsors, who turned up for a pre match buffet, to a sparkling display of running rugby led by star centre Kieran Murphy.
.
Playing with a stiff wind at their backs Saints opened the scoring after 10 minutes when fly half Dan Turner spotted the slightest gap in the Perranporth defence and darted through from 20 metres out to leave centre Ian Venner a simple conversion. Five minutes later centre Keiran Murphy scored after full back Tate Richardson made the vital break coming into the line at pace and giving the supporting Murphy the scoring pass, again Venner added the extras to put St Austell 14-0 up.
The home team looked set to add to their lead when the ball was spread wide, however, just when Perranporth winger Nick Buscombe was outnumbered 3 to 1 Saints dropped the ball and Buscombe picked it up and sprinted in from half way to score a fine try. St Austell's reply was swift when first prop Will Hancock was driven over from a line out close to the line and then centre Murphy grabbed his second try, brushing off several would be tacklers to score wide out and then on the stroke of half time completing his hat trick by jinking round the last defender to make the scoreline 31-5.with the help of Venners’ conversion
With the wind against them Saints kept the ball in hand in the second half and a number of sweeping moves going from well inside their own half ended with a final pass either going astray or being dropped when they deserved more. Finally all the passes went to hand and after backs and forwards combined no 8 Adam Kellow crossed under the posts to score the try of the match and with the reliable Venner again getting the extras St Austell were out of sight at 38-5. The remaining 20 minutes saw Saints relax and allowed Perranporth back into the game. With minutes to go wing Nick Buscombe scored his 2nd try of the match from a quick tap penalty to make the final score in an entertaining match 38-10.
