An away win, a bonus point, Hayle who were hot on the heels losing at home to Totnes, for the Saints the facts and stats could not have been better but Roseland are proving to be a suprise package. Teams forget that they were strong enough to be promoted to the league and it was Roseland who took the lead in this local derby, albeit the Saints had already crossed their line to be judged that they had knocked on.
Roseland spoiled and scrapped for every inch of their home turf and a Tony Penrose penalty proved this. What followed were twenty minutes of cohesive sublime rugby from the Saints. The five tries scored in ten minutes each side of half time by St Austell saw an absolute gem for the first from flanker Paul Winterbottom gathering the ball deep inside his own half to break a series of tackles and to give Matt Shepherd the first of four conversions.
Adam kellow then finished some good forward pressure touching down from a maul and then after this the Saints back line took the lead with Craig taylor, the irrepressible James Earp and Ian Venner adding to the tally.
Roseland never gave up and visitors to the ground at Philleigh will find them difficult to beat on home turf, a well worked try for Tom Day with Penrose converting more than stated their case.
The Saints will welcome Saltash to Tregorrick Park next week with a 2-30 kick off.
