The Saints gave visiting Saltash no quarter in this top vs bottom contest, 14 Tries, 9 Conversions, 1 Penalty a tally of 31 points to Scrum Half and Man of the Match Matt Shepherd but yet an almost subdued Saints left the field after the match with some of the players wondering and discussing what they could have done better! This mature approach could well be a realisation that the next match is always the hardest one, and with an away trip to Teignmouth to concentrate on more headaches for the coaching team.
For the supporters it was getting hard to keep up with play let alone with the scoreboard this was by far a thrilling almost captivating display of team Rugby, visiting Saltash could do little to counter and their sole score coming from an intercepted pass for the Saltash fly half Skinnard who converted his own score.
The first half was decorated with Tries, accurate kicking and a very steady scrum and line with first team home debutants Ryan Brown and Harvey Morcom making a good impression. A penalty for Shepherd was shortly followed by a try for Skipper Andy Ashwin a Shepherd conversion the first of nine, a try and conversion for Shepherd a brace of tries followed for James Earp and further tries for Sam Rhodes,replacement wing Sam Tank and for Hooker Ryan Pill. The half ended 50-7.
After the break the relentless wave of attack continued with only the first minute of completed No 8 Adam Kellow crossed to score and from the subsequent restart Wing Alex Welland followed suit. Replacements were then utilised with Jack Hughes on for Adam kellow and Harvey Morcom as hooker for Ryan Pill, Shepherd then completed his brace after fine interplay with wing Sam Tank. Darren Thompson was next in line he stripped the opposition of the ball and stormed his way through a realm of defenders to score the try of the match. Further scores for Lock Rob Jeffs, Rhodes and Tank finished the rout, Of concern were injuries to Ian Venner and Sam Black which including a sin bin had the Saints down to 13 players for a ten minute period without conceeding a score.
