This local derby was won by the hosts by simply playing better Rugby with an ambition to win, the game kicked off with a frenzy of Liskeard attacks followed by Saints counters but in the 9th minute Liskeard opened the scoring with a penalty kick from Full Back Nick Parker, the Saints could have levelled two minutes later but the kick from Saints Scrum Half Matt Shepherd narrowly missed. In the 19th minute Saints No8 Adam Kellow suffered a dislocated knee the break in play and his loss loss changed the shape of the match and Liskeard were now able to stamp their authority having closed out the ever present threat from the St Austell Back Row. St Austell must thank the commitment of their travelling support especially Alan Cummins who left the match took over the treatment of Kellow even taking him to hospital-thank you. Liskeard though had little sympathy for this event and by half time had built a lead of 22-0.
Honours even in the second half, 10 points apiece with the Saints salvaging small consolation with a Shepherd penalty and Back Row Rob Jeffs scoring a Try after some fluid Saints moves late in the match also converted by Shepherd. Liskeard were well worthy of their win with a Bonus Point performance, the final score was a commendable 32-10. St Austell must now regroup and confirm why they are in second place, with seven league matches remaining, Bideford needing 11 points from 7 for promotion, the Saints presently trailing Bideford by 13 points meaning the Saints will need to get straight back on track, their next 2 matches are at home the first of them against Stithians with plenty of work to do.
