Saints welcome the ‘Fishermen’ of Brixham to Tregorrick Park this weekend. The home side is looking for their first win of the season, after two close encounters with Brixham last year it’s setting up to be one close game!
The team news is mostly positive with the Saints arguably putting out one of their strongest selections in quite some time. An unprecedented injury list during the calendar year of 2024 has stretched and strained all three senior sides at times and it is a great credit to all concerned that the Saints, Sinners and Spartans have remained competitive in every game over the last nine months.
Despite the loss of number eight Kayden Micheal due to a head injury suffered at Lydney last week, St Austell RFC's long running injury problems are showing signs of abating at last. The Saints make six changes to the side that lost up at Lydney.
Adam Powell makes his debut in the back row after recovering from the rib injury picked up during pre-season and he will be joined by Kyle Marriott making his first Saints’ appearance since last December due to an ankle injury.
In the backs both Chris Ashwin and Sam Parsons have recovered from the knocks that kept them out last week and Cornwall Player of the Year Dan Tyrrell is restored to the wing at last after getting over an injury picked up during the pre-season games.
Among the replacements is the welcome sign of skipper Mark Vian who made a successful try scoring return with the Sinners last week.
Please come up and support the boys if you’re looking for some Saturday entertainment!! 3pm KO at Tregorrick Park!
It is a strong looking Sinners that make the trip over to Newquay Hornets RFC in a 3pm KO. Number Eight Rory Jago continues to make good strides following his return from a knee injury. Cornwall U20s Prop Dan Bennett makes his delayed senior debut following an ankle injury during pre-season.
It is a mix of youth and experience that goes to the North Coast looking to make it three from three and continue their winning start to the season.
It’s a week off for the Spartans this week with no game scheduled!
Good luck to all teams this weekend!
