History

The Club was formed in 1974, following the arrival of a Junior Priest (Fr Jim Allen) to the Parish of St Benedicts, Whitehaven.
Jim was an enthusiastic amatuer player who wanted to start a Rugby Union Club in what was and still is a Hotbed of Amatuer and Professional Rugby League.
The club joined Cumbria RU the following season and commenced to play in the County Shield League, which in essence was for Senior Clubs 2XVs and Junior Clubs 1XVs to compete in. The club went from strength to strength and by the mid 80s had won the Shield League 5 Years in a Row.
This, with the emergence of a Club 2nd XV, encouraged the club join the National League Structure and play 1st Team Rugby with some notable success's since the Mid to Late 80s.
The club has since ben crowned Champions of the Cumbria League (Level 8) on two occasions and in season 1996/97; won the Cumbria/North Lancs League (Level 7) to gain promotion to Level 6. Which, unfortunately, proved a step to far at that time and we promptly returned to Level 7.
During Season 1996/97 the club also reached the 1st of 3 Cumbria Cup Finals and were voted 'Cumbria Club Of The Year' in the previous season (1995/96).
The clubs 1st XV currently operate at Cumbria/North Lancs League (Level 7) and it 2nd XV is a prominent member of the Cumbria Shield League.
