However, with several key players missing for various reasons we headed along the A283 with an overall young squad of players available, including youngsters Cieran Towse and Dan Cusden joining the starting eleven.
The first half was a largely scrappy and lack lustre affair. Indeed, we had most of the possession but for long periods we didn't do a lot with it. The closest we came to scoring was when a Chad Milner free kick struck a Swans upright for Ollie Finney to follow up and put the rebound just agonizingly wide of right.
Down the other end any incoming Swans pressure was dealt with efficiently at the back and on 35 minutes Ben Rose made a superb reflex save, probably the save of the season, diving to tip a bullet header from Peters over the bar.
Half time 0-0
We came out for the second half with another youngster, Joe Amiss on for Towse and Amiss's slick movement on and off the ball was very effective as we upped the tempo and really started to 'stretch'em' at the back in pursuit of a goal.
On 53 minutes the deadlock was broken when Chad Milner sprung their defence, after a long ball upfield from Knowles, and kept his composure to neatly lob the ball over the advancing keeper to find the net for 1-0 Town.
At this stage we were well in control and minutes later Milner nearly grabbed a second goal when he had a close range attempt cleared off the line after good work on the right by Craig Knowles.
Unfortunately though on 80 minutes we let the Swans back in when some very slack defending from a corner allowed Iain Jarvie, in acres of space at the back post, to drill the ball past Rose to level the score. 1-1.
The goal galvanized them and the game swung for a while with us 'on the ropes' but we coped well at the back with Tom Pickford commanding in central defence.
In the closing stages we started to assert ourselves again and with a little more luck may have nicked a late winner
.
No, not the best of performances (and no 'local bragging rights'!) but definitely not the worst and as already mentioned several key players were absent on the day with a more youthful squad getting a chance.
