St.Mary's show great team effort to see off Bishops

This was a great St.Mary's team performance from start to finish, with both teams starting well from the whistle you could see that this one was going to be a close game. Bishops playing good football out from the back and through the thirds at every opportunity whilst St.Mary's were looking very direct in their play from the start you could see we wanted to score a goal very early in the game. The pitch was nice, the grass was short and St.Mary's were kicking slightly down the hill which was evident after numerous good through balls were rolling through to the keeper just before Jamie and Aiden could get on the end of them. Callum decided he was going to try a different approach and after a good pass from Sasha to Callum on the left hand side Callum decided to have a run at the Bishops defence. Callum was resillient in his run and after nearly getting the ball taken off him he broke through into the 18 yards box and looked up to find Woody who was in a great position to score which he did after 7 minutes played. 0-1 St.Mary's. St.Mary's had a few more chances in the first half but we could not get the second goal. Bishops on the other hand were throwing what they had at us but our defence were strong and kept them at bay.
Second half was very similar to the first and pretty equal between the x2 teams with the Bishops keeper making a great save from a great move from St.Mary's which seen Dominic Agnew's shot brilliantly saved from the Bishops keeper. Subs were made 10 mins into the second half and all subs making a great impact in the game. Dungca and Olly working hard where Callum and Woody had left off and also creating chances for the team. It took until 75 minutes where a good move from St.Mary's found Dungca in the box who then unselfishly squared the ball to Callum who tucked the ball into the corner of the net to kill the game off. Bishops played some very good football throughout but our defence were strong and wanted to hold onto their clean sheet which they did. Great work ethic from all the lads today all over the pitch seen us through to the victory we deserved.
