Georgians inaugural Golf Day took place on Friday 15th July at Marple Golf Club organised by Stu Torkington

Players arrived from 11:30 to enjoy a bacon butty, tea and coffee (and for a few, a pre-midday pint!).

It was a shotgun start at 13:00 so everyone ‘tee’d off’ from different holes around the course at the same time.

The weather gods were kind and the morning’s black clouds cleared to leave a very enjoyable and most importantly, dry day.

The golf was really enjoyable and the course was in good condition.

Some very good scores came in (especially where some debatable handicaps were submitted!) with the winners as follows:

1st Place Team (£60 golf voucher per team member):

Dave Morgan

Scott Walsh

Adrian Crannage

Craig Mullen

2nd Place Team (£30 golf voucher per team member):

Chris Pickering

Alex Rimmer

Stewart Blair

Ray Murray

Nearest the Pin (£50 golf voucher)

Andy Bailey

Longest Drive (£50 golf voucher)

Mike Holtom

Evening guests arrived from 17:30 onwards and following some very enjoyable chilli, rice and chips, the evening entertainment began.

Proceedings were brilliantly brought together by MC Andy Powell and Justin Moorhouse provided a great comedy routine, which also involved managing the prize draw and presenting the golfing awards.

An auction was then conducted by Andy Powell to which some great pieces were on offer, including signed prints of Tyson Fury, Cristiano Ronaldo and Phil Foden, along with four-ball golf vouchers from various local courses.

All in all, a fantastic day / night was had by all and some very welcomed funds were raised for Stockport Georgians Football Club.

Big thankyou to Marple Golf Club (club pro shop, green keeping staff, and catering department), golf day sponsors and everyone who helped out on the day.

All being well, this may well be the first of many annual golf days to take place – so if we can get as much support as we did this year, I’m sure we’ll be back bigger and stronger next year.

Thanks, Stu

On behalf of everyone at Georgians and all the players who took part, we'd like to say a huge thank you to Stu Torkington for the time and effort put in to organising such a fantastic event. You've set the standard now!!
