CLUB HISTORY

In November 2000, when a local father started Saturday morning football training for nine young lads it is doubtful that anyone would have envisaged that this was the start of the SGFC we have today.

For the next few months the numbers of young people attracted to the training sessions increased at a steady pace. The Club really came into full bloom, however, in September 2001 with the arrival of virtually a fully formed team, disenchanted with a now local rival club. This proved to be the spark that ignited peoples' interest and Stoke Golding Youth Football Club was officially born.

Season 2001 - 2002

The season 2001-2002 saw the SGYFC field mini soccer teams (7-a-side) within the Under 8's, 9's and 10's age groups.

Season 2002 - 2003

During the season 2002-2003, SGYFC continued its growth and fielded sides at the Under 7's, 8's, 9's, 10's and 11's age group. The Under 11 side played full 11-a-side football.

Season 2003 - 2004

In 2003-2004 SGYFC again expanded the teams age ranges by fielding a newly formed Under 7's and 16's team whilst expanding our existing sides at the Under 12's,11's, 9's and 8's level. The U8's had two teams registered (Swords and Dragons) due to the growing availability of players in this age group.

Season 2004 - 2005

For the season 2004-2005 we continued to increase our membership and fielded squads for the Under 17's, 12's, 11's, 10's (two teams), 9's (two teams), 8's and 7's. Mini-Dribblers (U6's) ran for the 9 weeks from the end of April onwards, free of charge.

We have also forged a link to the Senior teams in Stoke Golding enabling our players to continue their football participation beyond Youth football.

Season 2005 - 2006

We had an U12's, U11's, U10's (Swords & Dragons), U9's, U8's, U7's and Mini- Dribblers (U6's - for 9 weeks from May 2006 onwards approximately). SGYFC went from strength to strength and the support, feedback and reputation that we now had was phenomenal!

We were awarded the Chartered Standard for Excellence during this season - watch this space for more developments...

Season 2006 - 2007

Season 2007 - 2008

Season 2008 - 2009

Season 2009 - 2010

Season 2010 - 2011

A bumper year with squads for the U8's, U9's, U10's, U11's, U12's, U15's, and U17's. The free mini-dribbler sessions unfortunately did not find us a manager and so we were unable to also field an U7's squad this year.

Season 2011 - 2012

Not so many teams this year meant that SGFC went back to it's famous family orientated roots! The co-operative atmosphere returned with a vengeance and the committee organised more than ever well attended fundraisers and events for both the kids and adults. We successfully fielded squads for U8's, U9's, U11's, U16's, and U18's, and the support was fantastic. The free mini-dribbler sessions were a great success this year and the U8's squad was formed as a result.
