The Under 9's put in a performance to be proud of against a strong and competitive side from Groby.

At training on Saturday we spoke about 'team spirit' and how important it was for every player on the pitch to give their all; no moaning, no groaning just hard work and today the team did themselves proud.

We started with Jojo in goals for the first half where he went on to make a number of fantastic saves and last ditch clearances. Jojo was helped by Sam who was solid in defence, making a number of strong challenges including a last ditch sliding tackle to prevent a cross that could have led to a goal. In the holding midfield role Zane was up and down the pitch switching from defence to attack with ease. On the left Dylan made sure that Groby's right midfield player had no time on the ball and had to work hard. On the right Alvaro did lots of runs down the wing, creating problems for the defence. Rocco also came on after a few minutes in the centre of midfield where he performed superbly in the anchor role but also had some opportunities in front of goal.

Up front Elliot and Curtis worked well together, there was a number of occasions when they showed nice passing and created chances as a result. Elliot was unlucky not to score with his head from a superb corner delivered by Curtis. With 15 minutes gone the Swords had a free kick on the right outside the box, up stepped Curtis who fired it into the top of the net leaving the keeper no chance.

In the second half we made a few more changes with Zane going in goal where he really did put his body on the line on many occasions. Jojo moved to right midfield where he quickly managed to get on the score sheet following a powerful shot from out on the right wing that nearly blasted a hole in the net.

Jojo then had a hand in the next goal, he crossed from the right to Curtis who had his back to goal, Curtis flicked the ball over his head, turned and volleyed the ball into the goal......a fantastic finish. Jojo then fired a rocket shot that struck the cross bar and bounced behind the keeper and onto the goal line (with goal line technology the fans are convinced that a goal would have been awarded). Curtis secured his hat-trick following another cross from Jojo and a cool finish.

This was a total team performance, at no point did the boys let their heads drop, they worked tirelessly making the coaches really proud in the process.
