Stone Old Alleynians play at Rugby Town in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday 17th August, kicking off at 3.00pm. Rugby Town play in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, which is the same league as our opposition from the last round, Bedworth United. The Old Boys won 2-1 at home to Bedworth United while Rugby Town won 3-0 at Wolverhampton Casuals, who, as it so happens, are a team in the same league as Stone Old Alleynians.
Almost three years to the day, on 21st August 2021, we played Rugby Town at the same stage in the FA Cup, only this time in a home game at Kings Park. In a great game we managed to win the cup tie 4-2 after going a goal down in the 6th minute. From that team who beat Rugby Town, seven of the players are still with us.
The goals for Old Alleynians were scored by Jack Tomlinson, Lucas Baker, Sam Wilson and Sam Bowater. Besides the win, the game was also notable for a serious injury to our stalwart defender Josh Sedgley. The injury caused Sedgley to miss the rest of the season but since then he has been almost an ever present in the Old Alleynians defence and there is a very good chance that he will be playing in the match on Saturday.
