Memorable Double For The Stones!!!

Memorable Double For The Stones!!!

Dan Farrant22 Aug 2023 - 05:09

Former OCA side Stonesfield Cricket Club secured a memorable double over one of the founding fathers of Cherwell Cricket on Saturday

After an unforgettable 8 wicket victory against Challow earlier in the season at Field Close, it seemed as if the opposition were up for the fight (one of them quite literally) to regain their pride after the earlier defeat

Stoney made a quick start and could have had the game finished quickly albeit for some unusually wide bowling and some usual poor catching, Challow battled their way to 210/8 with Sammy Hart the pick of the bowlers with 3/22

After a short changing room ruckus reminiscent of sunday league football, followed by what seemed a pointless 30 minute tea break where no one actually ate any tea, Stonesfield began the anticapted chase!

After a solid near 50 opening stand, the usual flurry of Stoney wickets ensued, however it was surprisingly only 3 that fell in quick succession this week and it was Skipper Wyatt keeper Bailey Hatton who put on 75 for the 4th wicket. Tim departed for an unlucky 31 with a catch that would have gone straight to DRS! So it was youngster Fred Holloway who was next in and had the best seat in the house, as he watched Bailey despatch the Challow bowling to all parts of the ground! Straight drives, followed by huge hits over midwicket! It was only the fact that Challow accepted the challenge to bowl more extras than Stonesfield managed and that Freddie can't count at the other end, that meant Bailey had to settle for carrying his bat with a match winning 96*

After the game a fair few beer were enjoyed by all at big Daws 21st, with Challow feeling somewhat like a home from home for the KP of Stonesfield Jamie Burns, as it turned out his WhatsApp messages didn't help the opposition in the slightest!
