Huge weekend for the Men's squad as they face two cup finals on consecutive days. First up is the NBDFL Interdivisional Trophy, where they face Hale Leys United on Saturday.
Stony take on Hale Leys for the fourth time this season. Honours were even in the league when Stony ran out winners on the opening weekend of the season 4-0 only for Hale Leys to turn the tables in October when they ended Stony's unbeaten start to the season with a 3-2 win. That result started a terrible run of results that saw four consecutive defeats, including a second against Hale Leys, when they comfortably eased Stony out of the Premier Division Challenge Cup 3-0 .
Hale were in the running for the league title until late into the season when they stumbled, first at Olney but then at Horwood and Stewkley to eventually finish third in the table. They cruised into the Premier Cup final following their win over Stony with another 3-0 at Bletchley before losing out on penalties against Great Linford in the final after a 2-2 draw at fulltime.
Hale Leys' road to the final included seventeen goals for and two against across four rounds as they saw off Potterspury 7-1, Newport Pagnell Ath 3-0, Great Linford 4-0, and in the semifinal Hanslope 3-1. Stony's road boasts an equally impressive goals-for-column and included a penalty shoot-out in the semifinal. Bookended by two tight games, they worked hard to get past Marsh Gibbon 2-1, before trouncing first, Twyford 12-0, and then Bletchley 9-1. The semifinal was an epic tussle with Wing Village which finished 2-2 over ninety minutes with Stony through on penalties.
With the league title in the bag, Stony will be hoping for a cup to go with it and complete a double-double to cap off a fantastic NBDFL season for the team. Hale Leys, of course, will not want to finish runners-up in two finals this season. It should be a cracking match.
