After sprinting to the top of the Major League Footy 2018 Premiership Season ladder, the St. Petersburg Swans are suddenly reeling.
With two straight losses - a 51-point thumping on the road vs. the #3 seed Miami Saints, and a last-minute collapse against the surging Tampa Bay Bombers - St. Pete now must watch and wait for the next three weekends, as the circuit's unbalanced schedule plays out.
Three matches remain on St. Petersburg's MLF schedule, all twilight affairs, and all with serious implications on how the run home plays out.
First up is an August 11 rematch with Miami, this time at home.
The Swans handily defeated a weary Saints side April 14, cruising to a 66-11 rout, so the Red and White will be hoping the Home Ground pays off in the rematch.
A September 15 close the schedule of night games sees the Swans host Lakeland.
Currently at 0-3 and seeking to avoid the Wooden Spoon, the Tigers see the late-season schedule open up opportunities that could instead see a surge in late-season relevance.
The primary concern for the Swans going into this stretch of dog days, however, is the possible threats from the Florida Lions, Tampa Bay and StarfishFC - all of whom have six games remaining on the schedule, and all challengers to seriously shake up the ladder in the coming weeks.
