Strathmore 1st and 2nd XV's were in action on Saturday with the 2's setting the tone for the day with a fantastic home victory against Stobswell. The young guns in the team did very well with Josh Forbes and Dylan Mackenzie amongst the try scorers but it was Murray Fairlie who deserved to be singled out with tremendous ball carrying runs and offloads to set up various tries. Although the game turned scrappy towards the end Strathies 2nd, The Gryphons kept their discipline and composure finishing worthy winners. 41-20

With the bar set high from the early 2's kick off the 1st XV headed off to Carnoustie looking to see if they carry on the days winning way. It certainly looked promising for the Men in Black as Murray Mitchell ran a great line to split the Carnoustie defence open and power over the line despite the attention of 2 Carnoustie defenders on 7 minutes. Fraser McKay adding the extras. Carnoustie restart was kicked deep in to Strathies half but they were penalised almost straight away for not releasing in the tackle and McKay kicked to ease the pressure on half way. From the resulting line out Carnoustie managed to overturn possession and had a couple of good phases of play before scoring a try with poor covering from the Blacks. 7-7 after 10 minutes. Strathmore Backs were beginning to find space and for the first time in the game their wingers had an opportunity to run at Carnoustie, James Kiely making good ground before being tackled but support was there to ruck over and retain ball allowing prop Gav Dissel to score his second try in two weeks. McKay narrowly missing the conversion, 7-12. Carnoustie were pressing hard to try and hold on in the game and were rewarded with a kickable penalty after Strathmore were deemed to have collapsed a maul. Ex Strathie player Danie Van Wyk successfully reducing the deficit to 10-12 after 28 minutes played. In the final few minutes of the first half Strathmore were looking to extend their lead and with great forwards phase play they set up ruck after ruck before quick ball out to the backs who spotted a great run from Fergus Mitchell to score in the far corner.McKay missing the conversion from the far touchline.The Men in Black weren't finished there though and Dave Smith added to the first half try tally again following great interpassing and quick ball from Strathmore and this time McKay slotted it between the uprights Halftime 10-24.

The second half started with Carnoustie on the attack but they were held up by Strathmore and from the resulting scrum Strathmore opened their second half account with James Kiely getting his first try of the game after yet more great rucking from the Forwards and quick ball out to the backs. The visiting support were loving this quick ball rugby but fell silent for McKay to add the 2 points for the conversion during which time Strathmore changed their front row with Lee Alexander making way for Kyle Mitchell on 55 minutes.10-31. From the restart Darren "Slasher" Bell caught the ball deep in his own half and ran straight through the dog legged Carnoustie defence to score a fantastic solo effort try under the posts. McKay adding the conversion 10-38. Carnoustie were clearly rattled and discipline was costing them dearly. Gaps were opening up all over the place and Fraser McKay seized the opportunity to expose a gap with a great run off the back of a ruck to further the visitors lead also converting his own try. 10-45. Strathmore eased further ahead on 70 minutes following great hands from the backs allowing Kiely to score his second try of the game in the corner. No conversion but the scoreline read well for the visitors 10-50 and Carnoustie's misery was compounded further when they were reduced to14 men following a straight red card on 73 minutes leaving the home even more up against it with the Visitors desperate for more. However it was Carnoustie who scored next with a break away try reducing the deficit slightly to 15-50. James Kiely was desperate to get his hatrick before the final whistle and his opportunity came after great link up play from the backs allowed him to score his third try of the game and secure the victory for the visitors who were sublime in attack and defence. Full time 15-55.

Head Coach Stewart Ross commented "After a stuffy first 20mins the boys proved to be very clinical and scored some cracking tries. When we kept the ball and got some go forward momentum it allowed Robertson and Vernon to unleash an unstoppable backline attack. We now turn our attentions to league leaders Gordonians in two weeks time"
