Not the start to the season we wanted in terms of result, but can not fault the effort from anyone.
With an early score from Alex Jones (less than ten seconds from kick off, probably the fastest try I’ve ever seen) we piled the pressure on a strong and well drilled Burgess Hill unit for the remainder of the first half, dominating the scrum and winning penalties in dangerous areas. We were looking comfortable going into half time, albeit just 8-7 up.
Very good all round performance particularly in the pack from Lee Willis and Gordon Costick and a great solo try from RG Angleterre in the backs. Awesome work from he new guys too who shone on debut.
Hugely proud of the performance and the effort, and although the score line doesn’t look great it was not a fair reflection the game.
We can genuinely do special things this year, I believe we were the better team and they finished 3rd in the league narrowly missing promotion last season. We should be looking to push on from this and most importantly, carry on playing with smiles on faces.
