It was an early start at the re-arranged South Craven venue this morning for the Sutton Juniors U7’s Renegades team. We knew from the get-go that the cold weather would be a challenge for the squad but they really rose to the challenge and were out of the blocks quickly. The surface helping them move the ball with speed.
A wonderfully taken early goal from Berkeley when he was put through one on one with the goalkeeper really set the tone for the team and we didn't look back from there. George went on to score a couple of great goals. A fantastic passing move between Berkeley and George leading to George rattling another past the keeper in the second half. Some great work in midfield as usual from Lysander really kept Farsely quiet. Molly made some excellent runs, her speed is difficult for any team to keep up with.
The third quarter saw Berkeley make some really strong saves in goal - using his knees to good effect. Out on the pitch, play between Charlie and George opened up a brilliant chance which was just missed. Charlie and Peter were again solid at the back with some important clearances throughout the match.
Berkeley then went on to score his second of the match after a bit of a goalmouth scramble, a little right footed placed shot into the corner - showing he can score left footed and right footed.
The final quarter saw a lot of action with George scoring again to take his tally to 4 for the match. A screamer of an effort from Elliot almost culminated in his first league goal and although Sutton almost kept a clean sheet, Farsley scored a great individual goal towards the end.
They were all fantastic today given the conditions and it really was a collective squad effort to get our first win in over a month. Liara, Jacob and Elliot all made some fantastic runs with the ball today and on another day both Jacob and Elliot would have had a goal. Daniel made his competitive debut today and slotted well into the squad.
Awards went to:
?Player of the Match - George - awarded by opposition coach
?Goal of the match - Berkeley for the opening goal - a lovely left-footed finish past the keep which really set the tone for the rest of the match.
?Magic Moment - Elliot’s dribble and shot which almost ended in his first league goal
?Captain’s Player - Charlie for his brilliant defending throughout (both he and Peter are becoming real assets to the team in defence - allowed the others to play with freedom going forward.
Well done everyone.
