Sutton put the disappointment of last Sunday aside to give a polished performance and overcome a battling Silhill in this entertaining semi final.

Sutton began on the front foot and it wasn’t long before Joe’s low cross fizzed in front of the Silhill goal just begging for someone to tap in.

A Sutton free-kick in the 5th minute saw Louie head on to Jon, whose shot was excellently tipped behind by the Silhill keeper. Sutton then took the lead from the resultant corner-kick, when Kelvin timed his run perfectly to smash his header into the back of the net.

The Saints keeper was the busier of the two keepers as United continued to surge forward at every opportunity and when Sutton won a free-kick in the 18th minute, he did exceptionally well to tip over Keane’s effort that looked to be heading in at the far post.

Sutton doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when a throw-in from the left found Kelvin in the box, who controlled the ball and set up Jon to fire home from a central position.

The home side were finding it difficult to get beyond Sutton’s back line of Ollie, Liam and birthday boy Cormac. However, every Sutton player must have feared a repeat of last week’s semi final as the home side mounted a come-back with a goal in the 30th minute courtesy of a fantastic through ball for their striker to finish from inside the box.

But credit to Sutton for keeping their composure and continuing to play in a positive manner and as the half came to a close, United came close again when the Silhill keeper parried Joe’s effort from outside the box and unfortunately for Sutton, Nick was off-side when he followed in the rebound.

United continued the second-half on the offensive and it wasn’t long before they restored their two-goal lead when Keane picked up a Silhill clearance in a central position to deliver one of his trademark killer passes into the box for Kelvin to place his shot into the bottom corner.

Sutton were now looking comfortable and when Kelvin and Craig linked up well in the Silhill box it took a strong challenge from the Silhill defender to deny Kelvin his hat-trick.

Sutton kept up the pressure and another good move saw Craig hit the side netting with the last kick of the game.

This was a strong team performance from Sutton to earn a well-deserved win and a place in the League Cup final.
