League leaders Newsome score two late goals to win 5-3 following Saints recovery from three goals down.

On the back of two successive victories, manager James Moss made three changes from the midweek victory over Garforth. With Matthew Morton unavailable, Dez Booth returned at the heart of the defence, Shaun O'Neill moving to left-back and Jimmy Dean over to right-back. Danny Waite came into midfield in place of Dave Bell and Danny Wiltshire replaced Jack Witcher.

Before we even took to the field Moss had to make a fourth change, with Kieran Turnbull pulling up in the warm-up, meaning a start for Tom Day on the left.

From the off it was clear why our hosts were riding high at the top of the league, as they made good use of the ball and a sloping pitch to create a number of chances. Within the first thirty minutes we found ourselves three goals behind and things got even worse as Jamie Davies limped off to be replaced by Claughton. Things could have been even worse but for some poor finishing from Newsome and we were probably somewhat fortunate to only be three down at half-time.

Despite spending the majority of the half on the back-foot, we did create a couple of chances which gave us hope, with Tom Day crashing against a post from an acute angle and the hosts keeper making a real hash of a cross-shot.

With the slope now in our favour and with a change in approach which saw us press forward and prevent Newsome playing out from the back, there was a real change in momentum. Danny Wiltshire scored with a terrific shot from the edge of the box which seemed to shock our hosts. In a matter of minutes we quickly added two further goals through Tom Day and Shaun O'Neill to level the game at 3-3.

We were most definitely in the ascendency now and substitute Dave Bell (on for the injured Wiltshire) wasn't far away with a dipping shot from the edge of the box. As we pressed forward in search of the winner disaster struck, as the Newsome full-back, still recovering his position from a rare Newsome attack found himself on the end of a long ball through, finishing well across Binns for 4-3.

Despite the setback we continued to attack and thought we had restored our lead when captain Danny Waite hit a rocket from the edge of the box which looked in all the way, only to cannon off the underside of the bar, then off a Newsome head and just wide.

from the resulting corner Jimmy Dean had a sharp chance from 6 yards out, but couldn't keep his shot down.

To add insult to injury Newsome scored a fifth close to the end, when Binns mishit a left footed clearance to the striker, who lifted the ball back over him and into the net.

Despite the result the second half performance was arguably as good as any all season and something to take into the midweek fixture with Huddersfield YM (Home, 6:30 KO, Wednesday 30th August)
