As a club we are looking to raise awareness and funds for the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity.
One of our coaches Garry Ray and his family you may or may not know have had their world turned upside down by an undiagnosed heart condition in their daughter Katie.
Katie was a fit young gymnast with no health problems, but when aged just 12 she tragically died when her heart suddenly stopped for no apparent reason.
They later found out it is quite common, with 12 apparently fit and healthy young people in the UK dying from undiagnosed heart conditions every single week.
Over 80% of these could have been diagnosed and prevented but apparently 12 a week is an acceptable loss and therefore no funding is in place for the testing.
Since Katie’s death, they have been raising money in her name to help fund the testing and treatment of undiagnosed heart conditions in young children, in the hope that it could prevent this type of tragedy from taking more innocent young lives.
We ask that all of our members do what they can to raise awareness and if you would like to make a donation please visit Katie's fund page within the CRY charity at https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/katie-ray/
