Towcestrians travelled to the dreaming spires of Oxford to take on a Harlequins side who, having returned to South West 1 from the league above this season, had struggled winning twice in their first six outings.
Towcestrians, looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table, came across a determined and well organised Quins outfit, and promptly got off to the worst possible start allowing Quins full-back, Jack Robinson, to run back a kick almost untouched through the Tows defence to score the opening try, Tows woke up soon afterwards and a break from debutant scrum half, Murray Aitchison, setting up a try for Tows winger Matt Yuill
Tows continued to build and gained some dominance in the scrum, driving close to the line for Aitchison to smuggle over and grab a 5 pointer for himself, Tows followed this up with another score from Full-back James Falvey , all unconverted, to stretch the lead to 5-15, Quins notched up the first kicked points of the game with a penalty from Robinson in windy and testing conditions to take the score to 8 – 15 at half time.
The second half saw a turnaround of fortune and not just ends, the home team gaining the upper hand and scoring two tries with Falvey slotting a penalty for Tows to tie the scores up at 18 – 18,
Robinson then missed a penalty in front of the sticks to give Quins the lead with Tows replying by scoring a bonus point try, Matt Yuill again crossing with Falvey converting from wide out to seemingly make the game safe, however, with the last move of the game Quins kicked the ball out wide for their winger to gather and cross for the try and from wide out again the Quins fly-half , Robinson, converted to give Oxford a well deserved draw, Tows are now joint top with Maidenhead, three points clear of the chasing pack.
Speaking from the golf course on Sunday morning coach Robbie George said “It was tough game against a determined side, there are no easy games in this league and we have to turn up, physically and mentally, and play our best every time if we are to continue our success”
Next week Tows face another tough test away at Third placed Windsor
