History

Tupton RUFC was formed in 1969 by a group of local rugby enthusiasts. It was at this time that the local school, Tupton Hall, made the transition to become a Comprehensive. Spearhead by a new employee of the school, Mr. Dennis Sutton, several of the school masters and pupils from the current school team formed the club. Utilising current contacts with other teams in South Yorkshire the club progressed over the next few years, obtaining regular competitive fixtures across the district.
The club emblem and kit colours were also born at this time. The school emblem was adopted as the clubs badge, a fact that still strikes fear into the heart of some of our more “active” former pupils. Wanting to retain a resemblance to the current school shirt colours of blue with a wide gold band, the club found inspiration in the kit of Leeds Rugby League Club. The very first shirts were made using this design, purchased from a sports clothing shop in Mansfield called Dolby’s. The blue and gold banded kit design is still used by the club and maintains the contact with the past of a club
