Sunday afternoon saw Twickenham Colts entertain Teddington Colts in the quarter final of the Twickenham Cup.
On a warm Sunday afternoon the tie started with a minute applause in memory of a much loved Teddington RFC parent - Justin De Ferry .
It was our honour as a club to have Justin's wife Nicola, and their two boys Marcus and Dylan present on the touch line to join in the applause.
Once the whistle blew for the start of the game it was Teddington who raced out of the blocks and scored two converted tries, sandwiched in between by a try for Twickenham from Shane.
14-5 to Teddington.
Twickenham began to settle into their stride and a 2nd try under the posts from Oli White, followed quickly by a penalty saw Twickenham, arguably against the run of play take a 15-14 lead.
Teddington once again bounced straight back and took a deserved lead.
With half time approaching Twickenham were not to be denied and went straight down the other end, and a deft cross kick from Oli saw Theo dive over to cut the deficit to 21-20 at half time.
Into the 2nd half it was Twickenham who started brighter and a quick break saw Jack Aubrey dive over for the first of his two tries.
Jack's 2nd try saw Twickenham stretch their lead to 32 -21, only for Teddington to come roaring back to score their 4th try in the corner.
Into the final minutes and with Twickenham holding a slender 6 point lead it was left to Liam to crash over the line for the final try of the game. With the final kick of the game up stepped Jared Bruce with the conversion to make the final score
Twickenham 39- Teddington 26.
A fantastic local derby played in a great spirit. It is Twickenham who move on to the Semi finals in two weeks time.
A poignant afternoon but one where both sides can be proud of their contribution to a memorable game of community rugby.
