Ireland U18 V England U18

Cork, Ireland

29 March 2025

After weeks of anticipation and celebration of making the England squad, Henry and Jerold’s time to don the red rose came this past Saturday.

It would be remiss of me not to mention our adopted TRFC son, Elliot Williams, who’s younger brothers joined us in 2024, and was England captain for the game!

On the day they were joined by the age group coaches and parents who had initiated both boy’s rugby careers (aka the Twickenham Ultras!). The flight over was eventful and all 20 of us were excited for the day ahead (what goes on tour, stays on tour!).

Pre-game, the direct families of the boys, were there to welcome them off the bus, emotions part 1 done!

UCC’s ground started to swell with numbers and a full, old-fashioned stand was at capacity by kick off.

At kick off, the most noise came from our Ultra’s who were soon rewarded by the first big/important tackle of the game by Henry. The first half belonged to England who led 0-17 at half time. In truth they should have scored more...

The second was the old “a game of two halves”. Ireland quickly got on the scoreboard virtue of an interception. England rung the changes and Jerold entered the fray to loud cheers by the Ultras, and did not disappoint, with impactful carries putting Ireland on the back foot.

The three T’s combined to put Henry through the line with a clear run to the tryline, only for the local ref to halt the game (he overall had a great game, but!!!)

The game finished 24 -17 Ireland.

It was a great advert for UK and Irish school boy rugby, who both head off to the 6 Nations on 6th April, as favourites in their groups.

Emotion part 2- after the game and formal team dinner, the direct families of the boys attended the formal capping ceremony with tears of pride and many photos and videos taken to live long in the memories.

This was a very special day for Twickenham, made more so by the travelling Ultras!
