TRFC Round-up

Weekend Round Up – 30 March:

A relatively quiet weekend down Parkfields.

Senior Rugby:

1st XV:

The boys had a rest week (thoroughly deserved after that Weybridge game!), and are next in action away v Hove in the final game of the season in Counties 1 Surrey/Sussex.

The boys currently sit at the top of the table. The maths is pretty simple. Win – with a bonus point – and the title is ours.

Win – without a bonus point and it starts to get interesting, as Old Rutlishians (who are home to Cobham), have a better points difference – but our win ratio is better – so I think that means we’d still be Champions, unless Old Ruts got a bonus point in which case they’d trump us!

The club is running a coach to Hove at a bargain £20 per seat. Paul Neville the man to talk to if you’re interested – please SMS/WhatsApp him, or let me know & I’ll pass on your details. There are 19 seats left (I just booked 3!)…

No rest for the wicked – we travel to Cobham for the 1st Round of the Papa Johns Cup the week after – Saturday 12 April.

2nd XV:

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the 2nd XV, as we couldn’t raise a side to take on Finchley 2nd XV. It been a season of highs and lows for the 2’s, with a number of games lost at the death, where we probably could’ve sneaked the win.

We finished 8th of 9 in Division 1 of the Middlesex Merit Table, which has some really good teams in it.

Mini Rugby:

Training this week – and training this Sunday as the Mini’s Tour has fallen through.

One of the highlights of my year down the years – The Grand National in the Mash & Barrell, European Rugby on the i-phone as Man Utd v Arsenal dominated the screens, kids spending hard earned 2p’s & 5p’s in abundance on the Penny Shuffles in the Arcade….

Cold caravans with damp, smelly kit….

Fancy dress on Saturday night….

Oh, and a bit of rugby as the excuse…

Loved every minute of it! Lets hope we’re ‘Back on Tour’ next year, as it’s a right of passage as much for the mums & dads as it is the kids…!

Junior Girls Rugby:

Girls U14’s were at Grasshoppers v Enfield in a Cluster match. The girls battled bravely, and came away with …. I'm not sure!

Girls U16’s were cluster training at Wasps

Girls U18’s were training at Parkfiellds

This Sunday looks like this:

Girls U14’s – Away at Saracens

Girls U16’s – TBC

Girls U18’s - Home Training – Colts Pitch from 10:00 am

Junior Boys Rugby:

U12’s:

Training last Sunday, and training again this Sunday.

U13’s:

Training last Sunday, and training again this Sunday.

U14’s:

The U14’s were on their travels for what is an annual fixture against Windsor. A depleted side fought to the bitter end, but just couldn’t hold out. Shane with the detail here:

https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/twickenhamrfc/news/u14s-v-windsor-away--lost-3026-2909651.html

Training the order of the day this week.

U15’s:

The U15’s were due to play Teddington, but school skiing trips took priority on this occasion!

Training this week for those who made it home safely without sunburn/frostbite/broken limbs…!

U16’s:

Quins finals day at Esher v Cobham was the plan, but with injuries mounting up, we couldn’t raise a XV, so Mothers’ Day lunches (already a high priority) won the top spot, and everyone was happy….!?

With any luck, we’ll get to play Cobham in the postponed fixture this weekend (place, date & time TBC)…

Colts:

After their exertions of recent weeks, the boys chose to catch up on some revision and to treat their mothers for the 1 day of the year when it really, really mattered…

In other news, several players, parents, (former) coaches and other interested parties made the trip to Cork for the England U18’s friendly v Ireland U18’s. Twickenham had more reason than most to be interested in the game – Nick Laidlow takes up the story:

and a couple of photos:

We understand that our boys will be in action again on Good Friday (18th April) as they take on France in Vichy. Best of luck chaps!

Club Messages:

Coach to Hove – Let Paul Neville know if you are interested at £20 per seat!

Mini’s Festival:

I know much is going on behind the scenes, but date for diary is Sunday 27 April. It’ll be all hands on deck, so please if you are available, please let Alex B know – I’m sure any help (even for 30 minutes or an hour) will be gratefully welcomed!

Referee Course:

One of the things I know Alex is looking for is independent referees to help take the pressure off the coaches on the day of the Festival. If you’re fit and capable, the London Society is running it’s ‘Take up the Whistle’ course – conveniently at Parkfields btw – on Mondays 7 & 14 April from 19:00. Link here:

https://www.londonrugby.com/course-dates/2025/4/7/tutw-twickenham

You must be booked on to attend please. Don’t just turn up!

First Aid:

Another thing he’ll be looking for is qualified first aiders!

Reminder from Amelia - We will be hosting face to face First aid training in the club house on Wednesday 16th April at 19:00, followed by some online modules.

Ska & BBQ:

Early placeholder – Puff is looking to hold a summer BBQ & Ska night for club members during the August holidays (not to clash with pre-season training obviously) or Hampton Hill Cricket Club games (for those that don’t know – they are looking to host some of their social cricket home games at Parkfields this summer).

For those with a preference of dates, do let Puff know so he can pencil in a date….

TRFC Shop:

It may be too late to pick up a (non)tour shirt, but bucket hats and plenty of other branded bargains available. Please see Anneka in the shop every Sunday morning..

That’s all for now folks…

Let me know if I’ve missed anything or you have further updates.

Lets do the business at Hove. Come on the Mighty T’s…!

Cheers all
