The U13’s headed to The Richmond Athletic Ground for Surreys finals day for a 3rd/4th place match after last weeks play of defeat to RP.
There are two A leagues in Surrey and on finals days it’s 1st v 1st, 2nd v 2nd etc. T’s were lining up against Dorking who we heard on the grapevine won all their games bar a tough to defeat away to Battersea Ironsides.
The large pitch and sunny conditions suited Twickenham's style and the first half was one of the best spectacles we have seen this season. The referee who was excellent on the day, let the game flow and the quality from both teams was arguably above that of a 3rd/4th play off.
Twickenham's speed, size and hunger told and Dorking would have felt hard done by to go into the break 4-0 down.
Always keen to entertain, the T’s appeared to not come out for the 2nd half and Dorking pulled it back to 4-3, perhaps able to see the smoke coming from coach Kirks head, the squad settled down, went back to basics and the game finished 6-3 to Twickenham.
It was a great end to the U13’s first appearance in the Surrey league, with their only loss being an unprecedented play off against Rosslyn Park last week.
Overall 3rd out of 52 teams is a fantastic achievement and a great foundation to take into the U14’s as they look to settle some unfinished business.
