U15's v Chiswick (Home ) - Won 36-26

David Lingeman2 Mar - 21:27

U15's

A good home victory in the ? this morning as we came out the right side of a close encounter with Chiswick B’s to win 36-26.

The game got off to a cagey start and despite both teams getting in good positions high up the pitch it remained 0-0 after 15 mins.

After good work from our forwards, Archie was able to execute a backs-move from the training pitch to get the ball to Ollie who retained possession to allow Javey to pick and run from close range and break the deadlock.

Usually Twickenham are pleased when Scott scores - unfortunately it was to level it up for the opposition as Chiswick were short of backs and we had to lend them some players to make a 15 (well done to all the players who swapped shirts today to allow the game to go ahead).

At 7-7, Dan was able to intercept on the halfway line and send a kick deep into their 22. We chased down the ball and again Javey was on-hand to finish off. Dan adding both conversions in the first half to leave it 14-7 at half time.

We kept taking the game to Chiswick in the second half, our third try followed some great running from George and then Jerome to punch our way up the pitch. A quick offload to Theo and then Daire put us in range. From the wing Daire cut inside to find acres of space and score a classy try under the posts. After Chiswick got a try back we were able to regain our advantage. Quick thinking from Adam I got the ball out wide to Charlie D who took the ball into contact. From the resulting ruck, Jerome was able to muscle over the line.

Our forwards were great at making ground up the pitch today - there were some fantastic carries with the ball from Charlie F and Josh in particular. It was Dylan’s running with the ball that Daire was able to finish off to add our next try and earn Daire Players’ MotM. At 31-14 it was looking like a comfortable victory, but two quick-fire tries from Chiswick lead to the nervy ending reducing our lead down to 5 points. With the game in the balance, our high line was able to force a mistake from Chiswick and it was Nate who made the decisive interception to score the try that took the game out of reach for Chiswick.

A really pleasing team performance today, with several players stepping up and noticeably gaining in confidence. Coaches’ MotM goes to Adam I for his tackling and leadership on the pitch. This sets us up nicely for next week’s quarter final against Farnham in the Surrey cup. ?
