For the first time this season, Oban Lorne failed to come away with the win. A brave performance by the Villagers had the previously unbeaten Oban side under pressure for the majority of the second half, with the visitors needing a late penalty to take a share of the spoils.
It was a wet and gloomy Castle Policies that awaited Oban but that didn't stop them scoring the opening try of the match after only 9 minutes. The successful conversion opened up a 7 point lead which Oban held onto until the final minute of the half when Cammy Quinn slotted over a penalty for the Villagers to reduce the deficit going into the half time break.
The second period was a tough battle for both sides but this time it was the Villagers who crossed the whitewash, Liam Quinn securing the try, and Cammy Quinn adding the conversion. This nudged the Villagers into a 10-7 lead but with 30 minutes of game time still to play the result was by no means confirmed.
Strong defending by both sides prevented any further try scoring, and it was left to Oban to slot over a penalty on 78 minutes to round off the scoring for the day, and secure the draw.
Given the recent form that Oban have shown this result confirms that the Villagers are genuine contenders in the top half of the league table, and shows the progress this young squad are making this season.
The Villagers will look to continue their unbeaten 2023 record next Saturday (25/02) when they face the long trip to Stranraer to face Wigtownshire. With the lighter nights coming in kick offs revert back to 3pm from next Saturday.
