Uddingston men's 1st XV secured their first league win of the season on Saturday when they came back from Clydebank with a 26-21 victory, and the all important try bonus point.
In a game of 2 halves, the Villagers were quick off their mark with Josh McPhail opening the scoring in the first minute for his first try on his debut. Ruairidh Anderson added the conversion for an early 7-0 lead.
90 seconds later the Villagers doubled their advantage with Alan Paul claiming the try and Anderson once more adding the conversion.
With the clock ticking towards half time Uddingston added their third try of the afternoon. This time it was Anderson himself who crossed the whitewash before knocking over the conversion.
With a comfortable 21-0 lead at the break the Villagers secured the try bonus point in the opening minute of the second period, Ross McFadden doing the honours.
With the game seemingly wrapped up things went quiet for the next 20 minutes before Clydebank awakened and started to claw their way back into the match.
A penalty try on 65 minutes was followed by 2 converted tries on 67 and 71, bringing the score back to 21-26. With 8 minutes to play it was suddenly a nervous end, but the Villagers held their nerve to claim their first win of the season.
Next Saturday, 16 September, the Villagers are once more on the road with the short trip into North Lanarkshire to face Cumbernauld. Kick off at 3pm
