In a season that promised so much the Villagers had to settle for 4th place in the table after letting their title challenge slip over the course of 3 weekends in April.
That said, they brought the curtain down in style with a convincing 50-19 home win over Cumbernauld.
Despite giving the visitors a 14 point lead in the opening quarter the Villagers quickly got their act into gear and by half time 3 tries and 2 conversions saw them go into the break with a 19-14 advantage that they never let slip. First half scoring came from McPherson, McPhail, and Watt, with Ruairidh Anderson adding the conversions.
If the first half had been a bit edgy and tense the second was pretty much one way traffic. An early try from Blane Anderson, converted by his brother, extended the lead before Cumbernauld pulled one back, the missed conversion leaving the scoreline at 26-19.
From here the Villagers went on a scoring spree with a further 4 unanswered tries, 2 converted, to put the match beyond the visitors. Alston, McKeown (2) and B Anderson claimed the tries with R Anderson adding the 2 conversions.
With the season now complete the Villagers can reflect and look to build for next year, and another crack at moving up to West Division 1. With local rivals Strathaven losing out on the final day of the season their will another tasty Lanarkshire derby to look forward to next year.
Congratulations to Bishopton who were worthy winners of Division 2, with Cambuslang claiming the runners up spot and second promotion place.
Thanks to all players coaches and supporters who have taken to the pitch and stood on various touchlines during the season. Your commitment to the club is very much appreciated and we look forward to seeing you all back again in September
