It was a game that swung both ways at Castle Policies, but it was the Villagers who fought their way back into the match to claim the all important W.
Early tries by Alan Paul and Andy Watson, both converted by Ruairidh Anderson, gave the Villagers a 14 point advantage after 20 minutes.
To their credit, the visitors were not going to go down without a fight and 2 quick tries on 24 and 26 minutes brought it back to a 2 point game at 14-12.
As the first half drew to a close it was Captain Ruairidh West who crashed over for the try to head for the jaffas with a 19-12 lead at the break.
Helensburgh started the second the half the brighter and 2 tries either side of an Anderson penalty nudged them into a 22-24 lead with only 3 minutes of play remaining.
The Villagers were determined not to throw this one away, and another Anderson penalty was enough to ensure a home win, 25-24.
The visitors head back with a losing bonus and a try bonus for their efforts, but nearly claimed the full 5 points.
Next Saturday 02/10, the Villagers hit the road with the short trip to Paisley. Kick off 3pm at Anchor Park
