Uddingston 1st XV brought their West Division 2 league campaign to a close on Saturday when they lost out 19-36 to local rivals Dalziel, a result that moved Dalziel to the top of the table.

The match stated at a frantic pace and it was the visitors who capitalised, pushing themselves into a 12-0 lead with only only 25 minutes played. Then the Villagers woke up!

The remaining 15 minutes if the first half saw Uddingston dominate. Ru Anderson crossed fir a try on 27 minutes before Alston matched him 10 minutes later. The successful conversion from Anderson levelled the scores at 12-12. With Dalziel looking for the half time break the Villagers pushed on, and Anderson scored his second try of the afternoon, and secured the conversion, to go into the break 19-12 ahead.

If the Villagers thought an upset was on the cards Dalziel had other ideas. A much stronger second half saw them close out the game, kill off the Villagers’ hopes, and with 3 converted tries and a penalty, claim the bonus point win.

With the Villagers’ season now complete they find themselves finishing 5th in the table, a result they would have accepted after the struggles of the last 2 seasons.

Earlier in the afternoon the 2nd XV took the field against their counterparts from Livingston. Unfortunately for the Villagers they came up against a well drilled Livi side, eventually losing out 39-12
