USF Rugby club powered over FSU in Tallahassee on Saturday, February 22, 2020 with a 12 try to 1 VICTORY.
Lose head prop, #1 Sean Johnson, opened the scoring with the first TRY of the match, 47 seconds after kick-off. What followed was a 15 minute period of disjointed play, with USF losing its attacking and defensive shape, allowing FSU to take control.
USF then returned to its attacking game with 2 converted tries in quick succession to #13 Mike Burrell and #10 Jordan Hagard. FSU came back with a series of territorial gains and, due to some indiscipline in defense from USF, they (FSU) scored a converted try after this period of sustained pressure.
Score after 25 minutes - USF 19 - FSU 7.
USF then returned to their attacking game and, in the last 15 minutes of the first half, scored 4 tries in quick succession - 1 to #12 Jon Carlo Salani (converted by #10 Jordan Haggard), 2 to #8 Murray Alford and another converted try to Front Row Club member, #3 Justin Osagie.
Score at Half Time: USF 43 FSU 7
Shortly after the start of the second half, Murray Alford added to his try tally and USF started to bring on its "Finishers". Another period of USF indiscipline resulted in a Yellow Card. Down to 14 players, and with USF continuing to bring on more Finishers, your Bulls were still able to add a further 4 tries, 1 each to #15 Chris Zinn, (another) to #8 Murray Alford, AND, to the delight of the USF sideline, a try to #19 Mattisse Bascome and to #18 Lorenzo Pantano.
Lorenzo announced his presence on the field with a bullocking open field run, dispensing with would be FSU tacklers.
FINAL SCORE: USF 74 FSU 7
USF will need to play a more disciplined game if it is to defend its Florida Collegiate Conference State Championship title and if it is to progress through the USA Rugby Regional to the 2020 USA Rugby National Championship.
