Let's be honest. A poor start to the season.

It is safe to say this wasn't the planned start to the season. It is difficult to summarise quite what went wrong but safe to say very little went right.

After a good pre-season of training we knew the game against CSOM could be a tricky start. We made some mistakes in the first 15 minutes which led to them scoring two quick tries. We settled down briefly after this and responded with a penalty. At this point you can insert which phrase you want - "It all went a little pear shaped", "The wheels fell off", "The students taught us a lesson" or something stronger - but the summary is that we played poorly. I should add that this is not to take anything away from the CSOM team as they didn't score 59 points just by turning up. They pressurised the ball and ran it well to take their opportunities. One Veor player we did want to mention was Dean Pascoe who played his first game for us. He hadn't been on a rugby pitch for a little while but still played well showed his experience at scrum-half.

As we said last week it is about taking each game at a time this year and it wouldn't have made any difference if we had won by 50 points. We would still have had the same expectations this season, we would still have pushed ourselves in training and still expected to perform in our next game.

We already knew the league was going to be tough and the opening results across all the games showed this. It should make for an interesting season.
