The vets welcomed newly promoted Hedworth Hall to the welfare stadium, looking to build on last weeks opening day victory over Jarrow Civic.
Manager Keith Smith and Neighbors heart-throb Harold Bishop had to shuffle their pack with a few lads unavailable. Croc wearing Marty Quinn, Phil "Thundercats" Gray and the youthful Simon Parkin all started, replacing lightweight Dan Evans, grinch like Lucas Patterson and Jim "handsome lad" Mcgregor.
For the second week running, the vets were second to take to the pitch to warm up, meaning that they ended up kicking down the bank again and to be fair the visitors started the game well. but the vets stood firm and took the lead when baby faced Nicky Quinn dug a great ball out and sent flame haired Dean Black down the right flank. after producing some real quality on the right flank last week, we all expected Black to have his usual underwhelming game today, but F$&k me if he didn’t supply a fantastic ball in for Gray to volley in giving the keeper no chance.
This settled the vets down, and with hairy Ryan Wardale getting into some fantastic positions the second goal looked like it was only a matter of time. But the visiting keeper provided some inspired (and lucky) moments to keep the score at 1 nil at the break. and that was the last we saw of Deano, being deeply religious he had to shoot off to church for baylesys bairns christening, which remarkably none of the lads were invited to? lik ehwtas that about? no really, whats going on there Bayles?
Anyways, the Hedworths keepers luck eventually ran out when he shanked a back pass right into the path of Andrew "Bubbles" Taylor. he still had a lot to do but he lobbed the ball back into the empty net from 40 yards. Wardale came close to getting the goal that his performance deserved, heading goalwards from a great Hucks cross only to see a defender tip it over the bar! after the inevitable red card Nicky despatched the penalty with aplomb and with it the points were safe. The Vets added a fourth when wardale again looked odds on to register only for the keeper to parry his shot into the path Nicky who made no mistake from 3 centimeters out. there was still time for Gray to have the ball in the net again, this time from the halfway line when his free kick sailed over the keeper and into the net. but the ref harshly adjudged a foul on the keeper and the score stayed at 4:0.
nexy up for the vets is the westoe at the welfare. that will surely be a tough game with plenty of edge, as usual!
Viva la vets.
