Coaching & Leadership Roles
June 2018

Overview
As we’re a parent run club, its natural that every few years those that have actively supported the club through coaching or administrative roles must move on (usually as their children reach an age where they graduate to other local clubs). While the current season draws to a close, the current leadership of the club have recognised a need to begin succession planning. The target is to begin handing over the roles detailed below during the upcoming 2018/19 season.

Can you help ?
Without you - the parents - the club are not able
to exist. We’re always in need of parents willing
and able to offer a little time and support to the
club. Right now, we need to fill the roles detailed
below. Please do let us know if you would like
to get involved. Children of those occupying any
active roles within the club are given priority
and are able to avoid any waiting list.

Exec Team
We don’t just need coaches and helpers to run the club. It’s vital that the leadership and
administrative roles are delivered effectively to ensure that the football is not only fun, but also delivered in a safe environment for all.

Chairman
The Chairman role is currently occupied by Deric Sydenham. The role is critical in setting the broad direction and tone for the club. It covers areas such as;
● Working closely with the exec team to help ensure the club is being the best it can be.
● Arrange and chair regular exec and wider coaches meetings
● Arrange and Chair the AGM
● Be available to support the club as required

Secretary
The Club Secretary role is currently occupied by Dan Ward. It requires;
● Approx. 1-2 hours per week of your time.
● CRC check required.
● Core responsibilities;

  • Main point of contact with Herts FA, including completion of annual affiliation process in June.
  • Monitoring emails from the FA to ensure relevant messages are received and actioned by the Club.
  • Working with the Treasurer and coaches on orders of equipment and players’ and coaches’ kit.
  • Assisting the Chairman in preparing agendas and minutes for meetings.
  • Ensuring parents are informed of key dates and in the event of adverse weather of any cancellations to sessions.
  • Helping liaise with FVPF on matters relating to the use of Victoria Playing Field.
  • Generally help out with anything else as your time allows!

Welfare Officer
The Welfare Officer role is currently occupied by Pete Comiskey. It requires;
● Approx. 1-2 hours per week of your time.
● CRC check required.
● FA Safeguarding course attendance required
● FA Welfare officer training required
● Core responsibilities;

  • Identify what needs to be in place to safeguard and protect children effectively
  • Act on reported concerns about poor practice and abuse within or outside
  • football
  • To be clear about the clubs responsibilities when running activities for children
  • and young people.
  • To help club personnel understand their ‘duty of care’ towards children and young
  • people on a day-to-day basis.
  • Managing the FA CRC process for the club, including progressing applications
  • and performing FA CRC documentation validation as required.
  • Generally help out with anything else as your time allows!

Treasurer
The Treasurer role is currently occupied by James Mead. It requires:
● Approx. 1-2 hours per week of your time.
● CRC check required.
● Core responsibilities;

  • Control the clubs bank account.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing payments using electronic banking and PayPal.
  • Assign and pursue annual membership fees from players parents.
  • Ensure outgoing payments are all clearly receipted and nothing is unaccounted
  • for.
  • Set annual budgets and feed into purchasing decisions made by the Exec team.
  • Report and monitor cash flow / funding etc.
  • Assist with placing orders for significant purchases.
  • Generally help out with anything else as your time allows!

Each of us will be around to ensure we help ease the transition and will support the new team in successfully taking the Club forwards.

Website and Communications
In additional to the above formal roles, the club could really benefit from someone assisting with maintaining and updating the clubs website, Pitchero membership portal and its social media presence. You don’t need to be an IT genius to assist in this area, but if you have any familiarity with WordPress or similar website content management systems it would be useful.

Coaches & Helpers
We’re always keen to recruit additional coaches and helpers. We aim to run 6 groups each year, covering school years from Year 1/Reception to Year 6. While each group needs a designated ‘head coach’ to design the training session activities and generally lead them, we like to operate a minimum of 2 coaches/helpers per group. Ideally for a full group, 4 coaches/helpers works well, and additionally allows cover to be provided for those occasions where a coach cannot be present every week.

You don’t need to be a footballer yourself to help out. A basic understanding of the game
(don’t worry - we don’t play the ‘off-side rule’) and an enthusiasm to see the kids have plenty of fun and exercise are the key requirements of the role. You would also need to run through some basic checks with our Welfare Officer before taking significant part in leading a training session. The Club would also look to support you should you wish to pursue an FA coaching badge or any other relevant training - subject to reasonable cost etc.

Get in Touch
If you’re interested in getting involved, or would just like an informal chat with one of the
incumbents perhaps to understand these roles a little more clearly, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch as follows;
