Rui finally bags 400th Sey wicket while Sohail shines with ball.

A terrific knock from Captain Greg set the platform for our out-of-form first team as they booked their place in the L&DCC Group Finals Day of the Vitality Club t20 competition after a 31 run win over Wigan.

Batting first, the Sey dominated the first ten overs of their innings, with Beaver siblings Greg and Dan amassing an opening wicket stand of 67 that included two maximums from the former.

Dan (17) eventually fell to a stumping off the bowling of Indian spinner Avinash Yadav before an unfortunate dismissal for Rui left us at 71 for 2.

After three ducks in his last four innings, Greg regained some much-needed form with the bat by bringing up his first half-century of the season off just 42 balls. Two deliveries later, his mesmerising knock of 55 off 44 balls came to an end via a run-out.

Harry (12) and Lucko (14) then took us past 100 before an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 29 between Evan (19 not out) and CD (11 not out) helped us close on a commanding total of 141 for 5.

In reply, Rui took just four deliveries of the Wigan innings to achieve his second milestone of the season after trapping Patrick Howley LBW for a golden duck.

This was the magician's 400th wicket for the Sey since first arriving way back in 2019. Many congratulations to Rui on another marvellous achievement with the ball!

At the other end, Key picked up a couple of scalps to take his 1st XI tally to forty for the season, before a Sohail wicket left the visitors trembling at 26 for 4.

Harry Jackman and opposing captain Jordan Hampson led their side's recovery with a partnership of 37 that included three boundaries in a row from the former.

However, two wickets in two balls from Dan put an end to any faint hope the visitors had of a win, especially when Jackman (21) later saw his stumps ruthlessly knocked over by Sohail.

Yadav (21) and Raheem Kasser soon took their side past 100, only for Sohail to score a third scalp of the night and finish with decent figures of 3 for 25.

The return of Rui quickly brought a second wicket before Harry wrapped up victory in bizarre fashion with the run-out of Kasser (21) to assure us of a place at the L&DCC Group Finals Day on Sunday 14th July.

The Sey will take on hosts Northern in the first semi-final, with Rainford and Formby going head-to-head in the other game.
