Key and Rui share wickets in abandoned encounter.

The dreary weather played its part as our first team saw their match at Formby abandoned after just 50.5 overs.

On an already-wet morning, Captain Greg wisely made the right call in sticking our hosts in to bat, with play finally getting underway at 12:30pm.

Dangerous openers Ollie Sutton and captain Ian Cockbain made a positive start for their team with a crunching first wicket stand of 28 that included a flow of fours.

After hitting Rui for a big six, Cockbain (17) attempted the same shot, only to fall victim to a Jack stumping. A couple of overs later, Sutton (21) found himself trapped LBW by Key, before a second Rui wicket left the hosts in some bother at 42 for 3.

In his first league game of the season, Sam Oldham and new batter Tom Billington put on thirty for the fourth wicket in a partnership that lasted over ten overs. The latter eventually fell to a fine leg slip catch from Dan to hand the magician his third wicket of the game.

However, the hosts continued to look comfortable at the crease as Oldham and Ryan Brown forged another key stand. Throughout the next fifteen overs, the pair added 73 to their side's total, with Brown hitting several crisp boundaries on his way to 46.

A couple of wickets for Key pegged Formby back, with the rain starting to rear its ugly head. Oldham eventually reached a classy half century before the dismal weather conditions led to the covers coming on.

With the hosts declaring on 172 for 6 during the interval, the Sey saw their reply suffer an early blow after Dan was cleaned up by Junaid Farooq. A hooked maximum from Greg proved to be the final piece of action in the game, as the rain returned with a vengeance.

The match was eventually abandoned just after 5:00pm, with both side settling for five points apiece.

The result also brings an end to a four-match losing streak that keeps up seventh in the Premier League table. The 1s have home advantage next Saturday when they take on Wigan at the KJM Oval.
