Obviously it's already been a great season, third place, vase run and into the final of the play-offs. How far has the club and the lads come this season to get to where you are now?
Yeah when you say it like that, the vase run, the 3rd place finish, play-off final, and we had an unbeaten run in the league of 17 games before our first defeat which by the way I missed due to covid, so I actually went 22 games before defeat, I only mention this as it winds my management team up. The lads have done excellent, really when you look at it it’s been exceptional, this is an amazing squad we have put together. I think the club as a whole has really progressed, on and off the field.
Against tough opponents on Saturday, league runners-up Hilltop in the play-off final, do you think you can go one step further and get the win that will see Wally promoted?
I’m under no illusions it will be very tough Saturday, Hilltop have home advantage, it’s not a great pitch, they are strong at home, and rightly so they finished 2nd in the league, however this team I have will fight hard to cause an upset and we are ready, if we play like we did Tuesday we have every chance. Also we have taken 4 points from them this season so hope they puts us in good stead, two good sides will battle it out and both in my opinion deserve promotion.
The support at the Hithercroft on Tuesday was incredible, tell us how much it means to have that number of fans cheering on you and the lads.
Honestly the support in the vase games and the big league games has been incredible, I’m so happy that the town is now getting a love affair with its football team, honestly it’s like an adrenaline boost seeing so many supporters cheering us on, we are all so so grateful, I literally can not find the words to do it justice.
Looking back at the season as a whole, what have been the highlights on and off the pitch?
Off the pitch; working with Glenn and having Adam and Kevin come in, I’ve also grown very fond of Geoff and everyone else. Also having Cameron capture our amazing story this year.
Having my kids come watch every home game has been fab.
On the pitch; the FA vase wins at home against top top step 5 sides.
Wins at home in the league against FC Deportivo Galicia, Hilltop and Tuesday vs Rayners.
Seeing the lads play the football I know they can and to see players smiling and enjoying it.
At the beginning of the season I said to the lads who were already at the club my aim is to get the best football out of you, me and my management team/coaches will make you better as players and along with the lads we bring in who will be quality players, then you all gel quickly (to which they did, there is a great togetherness).
Great to speak to you Lee and best of luck for tomorrow.
