Richard Colwell interview with Tom Bowen following Saturday's win over Romulus.

Assistant manager Richard Colwell was pleased with the side’s pre-season progress after a dominant 5-0 win over Romulus on Saturday afternoon.

“Definitely progression from last week, we played some good stuff. The pitch is 4G so it’s better than last week and conducive to the football that we wanted to play. There were signs of play that we wanted to try and do and the movement with the front men. We scored two or three cracking goals. Jack Kelly’s first and then Kaiman Anderson’s two very good goals.”

Speaking about the training and overall fitness of the squad, Colwell said: “The lads have been brilliant all pre-season to be fair. We’re not particularly bothered about the result, but right from the first session, the lads have been doing really, really good.

“They’re just looking forward to getting these pre-season games under their belt and getting match fitness. In the last ten to fifteen minutes, there were some tired legs out there with passes going astray, which is a little bit frustrating, but that will all come with games.”

The Wood travel to AFC Wulfrunians on Tuesday evening with a 19:45 kick off.

Colwell said: “We’ll change it round. We’re just trying to get people playing 60 minutes. A few have played 90 today which is not ideal for the second game but we have a few players missing and away, but we’ll have those back for Tuesday. Josh Mansell, Jack Hallahan, Jack Concannon, so they’ll get some minutes and the lads that didn’t start today will get hopefully 60 or 70 minutes under their belts as well.”
