Walsall Wood Football Club are delighted to announce that we have agreed terms with creative midfielders Nick Clayton-Phillips and Jack Concannon from Southern Premier Central side Alvechurch.
Clayton-Phillips joins The Wood as an attacking midfielder with a wealth of footballing experience. He began his career playing for the U21 squad at West Bromwich Albion, scoring seven goals in Premier League 2.
Subsequently, a series of loans saw him experience football at Steps 1 and 2 with regular turnouts for Braintree Town, Solihull Moors and Kidderminster Harriers.
He played for Stourbridge in 2021 and then joined Alvechurch, managed by Ian Long, making 61 appearances for the club over three seasons.
Meanwhile, Concannon, who also played for Ian Long at Alvechurch, joins as a creative midfielder who has regular footballing experience around the Midlands, playing for Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield Town whilst on loan from Birmingham City U21.
Most recently, he joined Redditch United on a one-month loan and helped them continue their push for the playoffs, but most notably was part of the starting lineup in the Alvechurch squad that played Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup in 2022.
Commenting on the signings, manager Ian Long said:
“[Nick Clayton-Phillps] is a former WBA pro and Jack Concannon is a very creative midfielder that has played for me against Cheltenham in the FA Cup.
“I’m really pleased that they’ve come to play for me and the club. These are two massive coups.”
Walsall Wood welcomes both Nick and Jack and wish them the best during their spells at the club.
