As Ware search for their first home victory in any of the six matches since April 6th’s 2-0 league win over Kidlington they face what could well be a difficult task in Brentwood Town.

This is the first FA Cup meeting between the clubs and their first of any kind since our days in the Isthmian North Division. Both sides made it to the play-offs in their respective leagues last season but whilst Ware exited at the semi-final stage against Bedford, Brentwood went out on penalties against Bowers & Pitsea in their final.

The Essex side have made a strong start to their season with a good 3-1 win at Redbridge last weekend whilst we went down at home to Thame United. Our midweek win at Stotfold showed what we are capable of but neutral observers might look at both clubs’ recent records and feel that Brentwood could have the edge.

Paul Halsey is no neutral and I’m sure he’ll have the team up and ready for the challenge. His sides have usually required teams from higher levels to relieve them of interest in the FA Cup (I’m thinking National League Chelmsford City and Kidderminstster Harriers in recent years) so we can expect a good contest on Saturday.

Because of holidays the match day programme, available at the gate for £1.50, had to be written well in advance but there will be the usual selection of articles beyond my possibly outdated thoughts in the opening pages.
