Saturday, 7th September at Wodson Park SG12 0UQ;
FA Trophy first qualifying round; kick off 3pm.
We welcome Newmarket to Wodson Park for only the second time and the first this century. 1999’s FA Cup meeting saw us win 3-0 thanks to Dean Callcut’s hat trick whilst our only other meeting was also in the FA Cup seven years ago. This time we won 2-1 with Yannick Kamanan getting both goals in Suffolk.
Can we make it three wins on Saturday? Well, it won’t be easy as The Jockeys are now playing at Step 4. Whilst they are still looking for their first win they’ve only had time for two league games as they’ve made good progress in the FA Cup. Tuesday saw them win their third tie in this season's competition, a 1-0 replay success at Ipswich Wanderers.
Prince Mutswunguma (on dual registration from Bedford Town) took the plaudits in that game for his goal and general performance after he came on as a fifth minute substitute. But they’re not a one man team and Mutswunguma hasn’t yet played a full game for a team that clearly likes cup football.
Ware are feeling good too with the FA Cup defeat to Brentwood disappearing in the rear view mirror after a run of good league results. I’m unaware of any injury problems so we expect a well-contested match.
The match day programme, available at the gate for £1.50, will have Paul Halsey’s latest comments on his team plus the report of our last game against Newmarket. It was a tough match settled by a brace from our former champions league player.
We also have the pleasure of hosting Pete Hill and Simon Allemandy as they bring you background thoughts and commentary on the match from 2.55pm onwards. If you can’t be at the game catch them on 90minuteslivefootball.mixlr.com.
Turning to Sunday we have league football involving all our youth sides. Two of them are at home with the under-13s facing Cheshunt at 10am and the under-16s meeting Barnet at midday. Entry is free with the clubroom and tea bar open for refreshments.
